HAPPY PRACTICING!!

This Week in Music...

This week in music...

Kindergarten reviewed some songs and games that we have been working on, including Bow Wow Wow and Engine Engine Number 9.  In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, we also danced with scarves to some Irish/Celtic jigs, reels, and soothing music.

First and second grade started with our special song, Tony Chestnut, then we played a game to Farmer in the Dell.  We did a fun St. Patrick's Day inspired rhythm worksheet!  Students did a great job remembering their ta's and titi's.

Third grade reviewed #3, #4, and #5, and we worked more on #6 and #7.  After we get back from Spring Break, there will be a small playing test on number #5, and then the next week on #7.  Students are doing a great job reading their music and playing the recorder!  Please encourage them to keep on practicing!  They sound great!

Fifth and sixth grade students have finished learning all three body percussion parts to We Will Rock You, and it sounds pretty good!  This week, they started creating their own body percussion to either a school-appropriate song of their choice, or just three parts that sound cool together!  I am looking forward to seeing what they have created!

Band students are still working on their music for their concert, which is on May 4th.  First-year students should be working on Centurion measures 1-21, and students in Red Band should be focusing the most of Distant Horizons.  Students are welcomed to go onto jwpepper.com to listen to each tune to help prepare them for rehearsal!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me!  Have a GREAT weekend!

Candle Fundraiser Pick-Up

Students who participated in the candle fundraiser for band may pick up their candles on Thursday, March 24th, from 2:45-4:30 in the high school band room.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Matt Tenaglia at the high school!

Updates and Reminders

The lesson groups have been updated again, but it does not affect many students.  The students whom it does affect, should already know, but I would doubled check with your student just to make sure!

As many of you know, there is a lot of standardized testing that happens in April.  Most of the time, I am not allowed to have students down for lessons due to testing and creating sound while others are testing.  It is vital, since we will not have much lesson time, that students are coming to morning rehearsal and are practicing at home!  I usually have no more than 15/37 kids in Red Band attend rehearsal.  Starting March 22nd, beginning band students in Blue band will be asked to come to Tuesday morning rehearsals, so we can practice their piece, which will be given out this week during lessons.

PLEASE REMIND YOUR STUDENTS TO PRACTICE!! :)  The success of our concert depends on the work they put in at home, since I do not have much time with them at school.  In reality, due to testing, I probably have about 4 lessons or so left with them until their concert.  I appreciate any reminders you can give them about practicing and coming to lessons/rehearsals!

THANK YOU!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me!  Have a great day!!

In General Music...

Right now in General Music classes, we are doing some fun and exciting activities!  5th and 6th are learning some body percussion to "We Will Rock You."  3rd grade is working on incorporating "G" into their playing.  2nd grade is learning about a special friend, Tony Chestnut.  1st grade is also learning about Tony Chestnut and how to Dance Like Snowflakes.  Kindergarten has been learning a few different tunes, such as Bow Wow Wow, Dance Like Snowflakes, Engine Engine No. 9, and Boom Chicka Boom.

Maybe your student can show you what they have been up to!  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
